MRBF Resolution on Marriage

On Friday, September 30, 2016
At First Baptist Church, Polson, MT

Believing that the Bible teaches that marriage is the joining of one man and one woman and that sexual intimacy is to be expressed only within the bonds of a Biblically defined marriage; and believing that any other form of marriage or sexual intimacy is immoral and a perversion of God’s gracious will (Genesis 2:18, 24, 25; Matthew 19:4-6; 7:2; 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20; 7:1-5; Ephesians 5:22-33; Hebrews 13:4); and,

Affirming that the Bible is our final authority in all matters of belief and practice, and is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creed, and opinions shall be tried (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Phil. 2:11, 12; John 12:48); and,

Noting the June 26, 2015, United States Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide, and that the proponents of same-sex marriage seem to force the issue upon those who disagree; we therefore

Reaffirm our commitment to a Biblical view of marriage, not capitulating to the pressures of culture, government, or other religious bodies (II Tim. 4:1-4); while cautioning against animosity toward those who may disagree or practice otherwise (II Tim. 2:24-26), we realize that God’s word and the gospel can impact anyone (Heb. 4:12; Rom. 1:16); and we also

Renew our resolve to declare the whole counsel of God, and to continue the work which Christ left us to do, the fulfillment of the great commission, till He come (Acts 20:27, 28; Matt. 28:18-20).
